A Word from Bill
Here’s a quick, two-minute video introducing theWALK and what you might expect on one of our explorations.
2 minute video introduction to theWALK by founder, Bill Palladino.
What To Know Before You Go
-
Get Oriented
We begin each expedition with a brief meeting and orientation. Typically, 15-30 minutes up front, depending on the session.
We’ll include a description of our exploration, hand out a map, a personal journal, and provide expectations for the walk.
-
Have Fun
We want everyone to have fun. Our expeditions provide an excellent opportunity to leave behind any baggage you may have accumulated from work or elsewhere.
Our class sizes are small, no more than twelve participants at a time. This makes our time together more intimate. We’ll encourage you to meet new people on the walk. Come ready to lighten your load.
-
Be Creative
Everyone has a creative spirit within them. Our explorations should provide you with all the permission you need to bring that spirit to the foreground.
Our guides will prompt you with activities and assignments. It’s best to allow the natural surroundings around you to feed your creative spirit. Part of resilience is learning to trust yourself. Let’s go!
-
Be Safe
We’ll be walking as a group, but you’re responsible for knowing your surroundings.
It’s OK to wander a bit, but keep within sight of the group so we don’t lose you.
Be mindful as we take up space on roads and shared trails. Respect drivers, cyclists, dog-walkers, runners, and pedestrians, as they have no idea what we’re doing.
Guides may occasionally instruct you to move to the right side of the trail to allow people to pass.
-
Collaborate
Bring your introspective self, but don’t be afraid to collaborate with other participants. We may even prompt you to do this.
If you’re here with family or friends, don't isolate yourselves. Our explorations work best when everyone connects as co-learners and collaborators. Social relationships and community are critical aspects of personal resilience.
-
Charge Up
Come with your phone completely charged. We may ask you to use your phone to access resources. Phones can also be helpful in case you get separated from the group.
-
Other Lifeforms
We will be spending time in nature and are likely to encounter beings of other species. On a typical walk, we may see dogs (hopefully leashed), as well as wild critters like raccoons, skunks, owls, hawks, and even slithery snakes.
We encourage sharing any knowledge you may have about the flora and fauna we encounter. Just be careful and respect their wild space.
Please do not bring your own pets! We offer occasional sessions that are dog-friendly. Send us a note if you’re interested.
-
At Trail's End
Once we’ve finished our walk, we’ll celebrate together! Woot!
Then, we’ll gather to close out the learning by answering questions and by providing you with suggestions for extending your knowledge after the session. We want this work to have a lasting impact on you.
A typical session will include a 15 to 30-minute post-walk conversation.
-
Beyond the Trail
Resilience should be practiced. The WALK offers resources to further your learning on our website.
Some resources are available for free, while others require a subscription. Please note that you can always visit our website to find support.
We’re Mobile
TheWALK explorations, by nature, tend to be on unpaved trails. However, we do offer at least one exploration every week on well-maintained paved trails that are ADA accessible to those with wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Let us know what you might need to make your exploration more accessible. We’re happy to turn our walk into a roll!
